Build skills with Aspire Hub’s Community Participation program!
March 11, 2024
Aspire Hub’s Community Participation program, Bright Futures, is a great way to meet new friends and try your hand at new skill-building activities. Our inclusive program helps to boost social engagement, builds interpersonal skills and supports you to achieve your goals.
What is Community Participation?
Categorised by the NDIS, social and community participation is… “about meeting people with similar interests and joining in social and community activities.” Social and community participation will mean different things to different people. Where you might want to feel included and take part in community activities, such as team sport or volunteering, others may prefer the idea of visiting a local cafe or interacting with peers.
With the support of provider like Aspire Hub, you can tailor a program to suit your needs and preferences, with activities aligned to your individual goals.
Our team works with every participant to build an inclusive program that offers a diverse range of options for every ability – from resume building in our dedicated Beenleigh Day Hub, right through to fishing and visits to Paradise Country on the Gold Coast – you’re guaranteed to have fun and feel great
after a day with Bright Futures.
Why is it important?
Community participation is more than just having fun, as an inclusive program, it fosters social engagement and enhances the wellbeing for those with disabilities. From building confidence and a sense of belonging, to creating strong connections and friendships, active involvement in community activities has shown to reduce feelings of loneliness and isolation and instead, boosts positive health and wellbeing for participants.
Not only are these programs great for individuals, but they also benefit the wider community and promote inclusivity and diversity. Plus, people living with disabilities can educate others about their abilities and promote wider understanding and acceptance in the community.
What is included?
With Social and Community Participation you can join community initiatives like street cleaning and tree planting, embrace active hobbies like biking, kayaking and walking, or get active with social team sports. You can also enjoy casual activities like attending concerts, visiting destinations like a museum or art gallery, or enjoy leisurely activities like shopping or have an outdoor picnic. If you prefer to get creative and enhance skills through hands-on activities, you can try painting, dancing to music, or relax and enjoy a wealth of wellness activities like yoga or Pilates. Aspire Hub’s Community Participation program also offers NDIS participants with the support they need, including essential items or equipment for participants to fully engage in their chosen activities like transportation, necessary equipment, and dedicated support workers. Our dedicated team will be by your side to empower you to fully engage in the experience and help build new skills along the way.
But don’t just take it from us…. meet Aspire Hub Bright Futures participant, Scholey!
“I enjoy the activities that the Bright Futures Day program offers. I particularly love the cooking activities. They have helped me learn different recipes and cooking techniques. Get creative, learn new skills and make friends with Aspire Hub’s Bright Futures disability day program.”
