NDIS Accommodation in Perth: SDA and Independent Living
September 11, 2023
Looking for NDIS Accommodation in Perth? You’re in the right place! With more than 30 years of experience supporting those living with a disability across Queensland, we’ve recently expanded to Perth, to help even more participants achieve their independence goals.
In this guide, we’re looking at SDA and Independent Living Support, so you know all about what’s included with NDIS funding.
What is SDA?
Specialist disability accommodation or SDA is defined by the NDIS as a range of housing designed for those with high support needs and extreme functional impairment. Those eligible for this level of support must have an extreme functional impairment or high support
needs. Extreme functional impairment means you may find everyday tasks difficult to complete on your own, like moving around, taking care of yourself, or completing personal tasks. You must also meet the key specialist disability accommodation requirements as outlined by the NDIS. If you’re not sure, it’s always best to check your NDIS plan to see what is included in your accommodation support. Not sure how to access your plan? Or need help reading it? Reach out to us either by phone or online and we can help you out.
What can I expect?
These homes are entirely accessible and have built-in features like ceiling hoists, home automation, and assistive technology to help make living easier. Our SDA homes are managed by our friendly and experienced staff who have been trained specifically to support high needs. Support won’t be automatically included in your NDIS plan so it’s important to reach out if you’d like support or further information.
What’s Independent Living Support?
Supported Independent Living (SIL) is an in-home support that can be delivered either in a current home or a chosen home like our NDIS Accommodation Perth options. SIL is a support to help you live as independently as possible while helping you build your skills with help for daily tasks like cleaning, nutrition, and medication management. This level of support is best suited for those with high needs who need some level of help at home all the time (including overnight).
What can I expect?
As defined by the NDIS, SIL includes help or supervision with daily tasks like cleaning, cooking, and grocery shopping. This level of support is designed to help you build skills while still living independently, therefore the funding can’t be used for things like rent or day-to-day expenses. SIL can be delivered to participants to live on their own or for those who may want to live with other NDIS participants.
