What is supported independent living?

Independent living support (SIL) is a type of support designed to help NDIS participants live in their own homes or chosen shared NDIS housing. This type of disability support aims to help you live

as independently as possible and includes help or supervision with everyday tasks like getting dressed, cleaning, or cooking meals.

What is included in SIL? Because SIL helps individuals to live independently, it can look different for everyone. Generally, it includes assistance with daily living tasks and hygiene, as well as assistance with lifestyle activities like engaging in hobbies or helping you with personal development, so you can tick off those independence goals.

How do I know if this support is right for me?

SIL is suited to those living with higher support needs. If you are an NDIS participant who requires support 7 days a week, including overnight, you may be eligible. Remember! Supported Independent Living (SIL) requires pre-approval from the NDIS.
